Launceston General Hospital (LGH) is one of Tasmania’s three main public hospitals, serving the northern region. Located in Launceston, it is a teaching and research hospital affiliated with the University of Tasmania. It provides a range of services, including Cardiology, Renal, Gastroenterology, Haematology-Oncology, General Surgery, Orthopaedics, Radiology, Paediatrics, Intensive Care and Psychiatry.
Founded in 1863, the hospital expanded in 1897 with the addition of the Queen Victoria Maternity Hospital, later absorbed into LGH in 1993.
The hospital also supports critical care aeromedical retrievals and medical research through the Clifford Craig Medical Research Trust.
